Campbell reveals how Diagne can be West Brom sensation
West Brom need to provide Mbaye Diagne with adequate service if the striker is to aid them in their relegation dogfight.
That is according to European football expert Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider with the on-loan Galatasaray centre-forward without a goal in his first three matches for the Baggies.
The powerful striker netted 11 times in 18 games for parent club Galatasaray in 2020-21 before moving to the Hawthorns in January.
He assisted Mattheus Pereira on his Baggies debut against Fulham on 30 January but has struggled in subsequent fixtures against Sheffield United and Tottenham.
Campbell highlighted the fact that the Premier League is a more taxing division than the Turkish Super Lig and that West Brom can’t expect Diagne to score goals if he isn’t getting sufficient service.
He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “He’s not a player I know a huge amount about but I have seen him play a couple of times in Turkey.
“But the Premier League is different…
“Defenders are a lot tougher, a lot stronger over here, even if he was playing for one of the top teams in Turkey.
“I just think it’s about service. He knows where the goal is and his record’s very good.
“You’ve got to give him the ball. Sam Allardyce has brought in some good players to the squad, he’s had a good window with West Brom.
“So I think it all depends on if you can get him the service.”
West Brom were the busiest Premier League team in January in terms of incomings, bringing in Robert Snodgrass, Andy Lonergan, Okay Yokuslu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles alongside Diagne.
The Baggies are currently 19th in the table, 11 points from safety.
In other news, top pundit has said he is seriously impressed by another West Brom January arrival.
