Matheus Pereira will quit West Brom this summer following their relegation from the top flight.
That is according to ex-Leeds shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider amid reported interest in Pereira from a number of Premier League clubs.
The Express claims that West Ham and Leeds as well as Leicester City and RB Leipzig are all keen on the 25-year-old playmaker.
West Ham’s interest is said to hinge on whether they can secure a permanent deal for Jesse Lingard, who is their first choice.
Pereira has had a mixed season for Albion but is in a rich vein of form at present, registering five goals and two assists in his last six games.
Kenny excused Pereira for some early-season struggles and predicted that he will remain a Premier League player in 2021-22, despite West Brom’s demotion.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “If financially it works for them and he gets the right money and the chance to go back to the Premier League, you can’t stand in his way.
“On the other hand, someone like him could be key to getting promotion next season if they could keep hold of him. But I think he’ll probably go.
“He hasn’t covered himself in glory for much of this season but it’s a difficult league.
“Your mentality changes, you see. You go from being a team chasing promotion that is winning week in, week out and then all of a sudden your mentality has got to change.
“You must accept you’re going to lose more matches in the Premier League. But for the right team, he’s a top player, no doubt about that.”
West Brom’s relegation was confirmed as they lost 3-1 to Arsenal on Sunday.
Pereira scored Albion’s only goal of the game with a devastating solo run started from within his own half.
