Kenny tells Coufal 'get real' after West Ham talks update
Vladimir Coufal may be in a stronger position to push for an improved West Ham deal in six months – but for now he needs to “get real”.
So says ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 28-year-old Czech Republic right-back.
Coufal has two years remaining on his contract at the London Stadium after signing from Slavia Prague last summer.
As per Sky Sports on 26th July, the Hammers are engaged in talks over a new deal with Coufal but he feels ‘let down’ by their opening offer.
Kenny suggests that Coufal should bide his time and angle for an improved contract in six months when he is in a better negotiating position.
“They’ve only just signed him,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“He’s still got a while left on his contract. He signed that contract at the start.
“You don’t want to upset your players but on the other hand, as a club, you don’t want to be getting pushed into a new contract.
“Their finances might be stretched from trying to bring new players in anyway.
“He has had a brilliant season and he’s disappointed but he’s just got to get real and get on with it.
“After that, you can see what happens. In six months time, he might have more power to demand a new contract.“
Coufal featured 34 times in his maiden Premier League season with West Ham.
Only Aaron Cresswell bettered his tally of seven assists for the Irons throughout the campaign.
