West Ham: Amazing Thailand shirt sponsor partnership is a ‘good match’ – Keith Wyness

West Ham United’s expected new partnership with Amazing Thailand would benefit all parties.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, with Amazing Thailand set to become West Ham’s new shirt sponsor.

The Hammers are being forced by Premier League rules to change their front of shirt sponsor from next season due to new regulations around betting company sponsorships.

The club will also be changing kit supplier from Umbro to New Balance from next season, with the club hoping they will be wearing their new shirts as a Premier League club.

West Ham’s financial state means the club will be looking to generate extra revenue, with player sales expected in the summer transfer window.

Keith Wyness reveals ‘interesting factor’ in West Ham deal

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes bonuses will be included in any deal between West Ham and Amazing Thailand.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the deal would make more sense than when Arsenal agreed a partnership with Visit Rwanda.

Annual Net Loss£104.2m
Projected Turnover£203m
Net Debt£192m

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think it’s a good match actually. Thailand and West Ham’s fan base is a good match; a bit better than Rwanda and Arsenal.

“So I think that makes more common sense there, and I think it would work for everybody. One interesting thing is when I had Chang, which was the big Thai beer on the Everton shirt, Chang were very clear that they were getting a better deal signing up with the Premier League shirt with Everton, than it would have cost them to have advertised in Thailand thanks to the media coverage the Premier League got.

“So that’s going to be an interesting factor. But obviously, this is about Thailand trying to boost tourism. I think they wanted a London club. I think it makes sense, but it’ll definitely be staggered in terms of the bonuses, in terms of where West Ham are in Europe, et cetera, or in the Championship.”

West Ham set to agree new hire

Wyness also told Football Insider that West Ham could face problems if they hire a new director of football.

The Hammers have confirmed they are looking for a new director of football following the departure of Tim Steidten in February.

Wyness believes there must be leadership changes at the top of the club for any appointment to be successful in the long-term.
