On-loan West Ham star Craig Dawson would be a steal at £3million — he has been crucial to the Irons’ success this season.
That is according to ex-Arsenal star Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed on Monday that the Hammers are looking to make the centre-back’s loan move permanent ahead of the summer window.
West Ham, currently flying high in 4th place in the league, inserted an option to buy clause in his deal and £3m is understood to be his parent club Watford’s asking price.
Dawson arrived at the London Stadium originally as a stand-in for other centre-halves but has been hugely impressive in 2020-21 and established himself in the starting XI.
Campbell says £3m is peanuts for a player of Dawson’s calibre and that the 30-year-old is a hugely positive influence on the West Ham squad.
He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “It’s cheap money isn’t it, so cheap. In the summer, there was a lot of talk about where Craig Dawson was going or where he could go.
“You know, maybe people didn’t really rate him as much but that goes to show what a good player he is.
“He’s come in, he’s made the defence a lot better and they have got competition for places at the back, which is great. That’s what you need.
“Everybody who comes into play is going to perform, and Dawson is one of those guys who’s been performing.”
Dawson has now started 10 consecutive matches in the Premier League having not featured at all in the first 11.
He has scored three goals across all competitions this season, taking his career tally to an impressive 46.
