West Ham fans want Flynn Downes to return to the club next season after what he said during Southampton's promotion celebrations.

Footage emerged of the midfielder shouting "Irons" into the microphone when asked what his plans are for next season, before quickly reassuring Saints fans that he was "only joking".

Downes, 25, is a lifelong West Ham fan, but having spent the season out on loan at Southampton where he helped lead them to promotion back to the Premier League, he has been linked with an exit.

Fans on both sides have called for him to remain at their club, with his future now up in the air.

Downes joined the Hammers from Swansea in 2022, where he made just 35 appearances before heading out on loan, although his Championship experience may have set him up for a future at the London Stadium.

Supporters are now hoping he returns for pre-season and plays more of a prominent role in the first-team as they gushed over his comments.
