West Ham fans have criticised Cheikhou Kouyate’s performance on Twitter after he struggled to impress on the right side of defence.

Kouyate, 27, is currently featuring on the right side of defence for the Hammers, despite Sam Byram returning to the bench following a long-term hamstring injury.

Senegal captain Kouyate conceded the penalty that saw Watford open the scoring in just the third minute, as he was caught on the wrong side of Mauro Zarate before bundling him over.

His lack of discipline continued in the second half for an overzealous challenge on Watford speed machine M’Baye Niang, which saw Kouyate receive a yellow card.

West Ham fans were disappointed on Twitter with Kouyate’s performance, as he struggled to remain solid in his unfamiliar position despite seeing out the entire match. Some even called for Bilic to revert Kouyate to his natural position of central midfield.
