West Ham in hunt to sign enforcer from top-four club, eight-figure deal predicted - report
West Ham are among a clutch of Premier League clubs in the hunt to sign Marseille defensive midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa, according to a report.
French news outlet La Provence claims that the Hammers are joined by Newcastle United, West Brom and Watford in closely monitoring Anguissa, 22, ahead of the summer transfer window.
It is understood that the Baggies made a bid worth £13.2million for Anguissa last summer before he signed a new contract at the Stade Velodrome until 2021.
The report adds that there a predictions the Cameroon international will leave Marseille for an eight-figure fee in the future.
Anguissa has been ever-present for Marseille this season as the southern French club club sit third in Ligue 1 as they aim to qualify for next seasons Champions League.
The midfield enforcer has made 37 appearances in all competitions in Rudi Garcia’s top-four side this term.
Football Insider verdict
It seems that West Ham are continuing their quest to sign a new defensive midfielder. William Carvalho was heavily linked last year and Joao Mario was snapped up on loan from Inter Milan in January, albeit on loan. Anguissa has been a key player in Marseille’s impressive season in Ligue 1 so once the summer is upon us, there’s a chance that the Cameroon international could be worth a lot more than the £13.2million that West Brom offered for him last year. With the Baggies staring relegation in the face it’s likely they will be out of the running to sign Anguissa and Newcastle seem unable to spend big.
