Sources: West Ham submit Jesse Lingard offer amid 'phenomenal' new twist

West Ham have submitted a lucrative offer to Jesse Lingard as they make a new attempt to sign him this summer, Football Insider understands.

The attacking midfielder, 29, will be a free agent from next week and able to quit Old Trafford without a transfer fee.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider the club are pushing hard to lure him back to the club where he dazzled during a loan spell in the second half of 2020-21.

They have offered a long-term deal to the United academy product and David Moyes remain a huge admirer of him.

In turn, Lingard is said to be “very keen” to return to the London Stadium after such a successful spell two seasons ago.

However, he was previously reluctant to uproot permanently to the capital and geographical reasons were key to him remaining at Old Trafford during the last summer window, when West Ham tried to sign him permanently.

There is strong interest in the England international from rival Premier League clubs including Everton and Newcastle United.

Lingard struggled for game time at United last term and his final season at the club was not a successful one.

That is a far cry from his role at West Ham, where he was a nailed-on starter and scored nine goals and supplied five assists during his hugely successful loan in the second half of last season.

Recently-retired former Irons captain Mark Noble hailed Lingard as “phenomenal” and revealed “we’d love to have him back”.
