West Ham plan big-money bid for international enforcer with £39.5m release clause - report
By Danny Wright
West Ham are planning to make a big-money move for Sporting CP midfielder William Carvalho, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that the Hammers are ready to launch an offer worth £25million for the 25-year-old, but it is said that they are wary over the prospect of completing a deal, with the Portuguese side being known to be hard to negotiate with.
It is understood that Sporting are looking to pick up a fee nearer to Carvalho’s £39.5million release clause in light of other Premier League interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and West Brom.
The report adds that, as well as another striker, Slaven Bilic is looking to add a ball-winning midfielder to his squad, and enforcer Carvalho would more than fit the bill.
The 37-times Portugal international, who won Euro 2016 with his country last summer, has been in top form for Sporting over the years and last season he made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals in the process.

The Daily Mail also reports that Bilic is looking to lower the amount of money spent on wages at the London Stadium in order to continue strengthening his squad.
Aston Villa are said to be in the hunt for January signing Robert Snodgrass while Galatasaray are keen on Sofiane Feghouli.
Football Insider Verdict
West Ham have made some very solid additions to their squad this summer and they would only continue that trend by snapping up Carvalho. It’s understandably that Sporting CP want to push for as high an offer as possible, but there’s little chance they will get anywhere near to his £39.5million release clause fee. The Hammers’ offer seems to be fair. They would be landing a seasoned international who is very efficient both on and off the ball. He would be the perfect remedy to cure what has been an ailing Irons defence by offering an extra level of rigidness in front of the backline. David Gold has previously suggested that the West Ham midfield doesn’t need making stronger this summer, but Carvalho would walk into the squad and be the best one there. If £25million is achieveable, the Hammers must go all out to make it happen.
