West Ham are preparing a bid for FC Koln striker Anthony Modeste, according to a report.
German news outlet Express claims that the 29-year-old is also attracting the attention of European giants Marseille.
Modeste scored 27 goals in all competitions for Bundesliga club Koln this season, but will be best known to English fans for proving to be a Premier League flop during a previous spell with Blackburn in 2012 which saw him fail to score during a loan spell at Ewood Park.
However the Frenchman has proved to be a completely different beast since he moved to the Bundesliga in 2013 when he signed for Hoffenheim.
He scored 23 goals in 62 games with Die Kraichgauer, before moving to Koln in 2015 where he has become a goal scoring sensation.
Modeste netted 25 league goals in 34 matches, and added a further two in the German Cup.
Only world-class attackers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski scored more times that Modeste in the 2016/17 Bundesliga.
Express also claims that Toulouse striker Martin Braithwaite is attracting the attention of the Hammers, who are in desperate need of fresh attacking options after injury-ridden seasons for Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho.
West Ham’s Premier League rivals Southampton are also said to also be keeping tabs on Braithwaite.
Football Insider Verdict
Modeste may have proved to be a complete failure during his short spell at Blackburn, but he has since found a great goal scoring rhythm in a very high-quality Bundesliga. The former France Under-21 international could be the player that really takes the Hammers to the next level next season because they absolutely need a striker who can find consistency in front of goal. He has also remained relatively injury-free during his time in Germany, which is also a positive for West Ham, who have had a number of their stars suffer setbacks over the course of the last year. Modeste is a clinical finisher in a very average team and it’s imperative that Slaven Bilic signs him.
