Nampalys Mendy is set to travel to England this week to undergo a medical ahead of signing a contract, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim Leicester are in line to wrap up the signing of Mendy in a £13million deal with Nice and tie the midfielder to a four-year contract.
It is said that the Premier League champions have fought off a late attempt from West Ham to land the 23-year-old by raising their offer of £9.5million plus add-ons from last week.
Football Insider reported on Friday that West Ham had tabled an £11.8million bid for Mendy in a bid to beat the Premier League champions to the player.
Midfield anchorman Mendy is considered to be an integral part of current side Nice, competing in all 38 league matches in the 2015-16 season.
The 23 year-old Frenchman has drawn comparisons to Leicester heartbeat N’Golo Kanté for his energetic style and has represented his nation at Under-17s level right up to the Under-21s.
The Telegraph reported back in April that West Ham almost signed Kante as Slaven Bilic recalled: “He was on our list, we were quite close, quite close. I had watched him in France. He was a good player, the same player he is now at Leicester – a holding midfielder, not very tall but he is one of those players that after 20 minutes you think there are twins.”
West Ham appear keen not to make the same mistake with Mendy as they look to wrap up a deal for the defensive midfielder but Leicester now appear to be in pole position.
In other West Ham news, the Londoners are interested in signing a Serie A ace.
