West Ham are still waiting to strike an agreement with Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta over a summer move to the club, according to a report.
The Evening Standard claim that the club are still waiting to hear whether the 32-year-old is willing to agree to their terms, having offered the player a two-year-contract.
Zabaleta is out of contract at the end of the season, and is available for transfer having opted to call time on his nine-year association with the Premier League giants.
West Ham remain firm favourites to win the race for his signature, but the Argentina international is understood to still be weighing up his options before pursuing a move to the London Stadium.
The Sun have reported that the Hammers have already tabled a two-year contract worth £100,000-per-week for Zabaleta, as Slaven Bilic looks to prioritise the club’s urgent need for a new right-back this summer.
The London club are very keen to finalise a deal for what would be their first summer signing, but the latest report from the Standard suggests that a deal is still far from completion.
Zabaleta arrived at Manchester City from Espanyol in 2008, and is currently the third longest-serving player at the Etihad behind Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany.
He has made 332 appearances in all competitions for the club, winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups.
Football Insider verdict
Zabaleta and West Ham would be a match made in heaven. West Ham have been woeful in defence this season, and have looked devoid of leadership and organisation. But Zabaleta, with his vast experience and abundance of talent, could be the exact solution they need this summer. He ticks all the boxes, despite his advancing years, and he can clearly still perform for a number of years in the Premier League. The Hammers will need to offer a considerable wage to bring him to the club, but they have already reportedly tabled such an offer, with the sale of Dimitri Payet in January likely freeing up the funds on the wage bill. No other English top tier sides have yet shown a real substantial interest in Zabaleta, and he should seriously consider West Ham.
