Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter has given a major hint that his future may lie away from the south coast amidst reported interest from West Ham.
It has been suggested by football.london that the Hammers wanted to sign the 28-year-old in January but that was blocked by the club.
They claim West Ham will now be on “red alert” after the player’s bombshell.
As quoted by football.london, Arter said: “When a player my age is not playing and someone who is desperate and just loves playing football, there comes a question over whether long term it is going to the right place for me.
“Ultimately if I am not playing, there has to be a change — and I am sure the manager would understand that.
“If I don’t play between now and the end of the season and am a continued spectator then, naturally, there would a be a discussion.”
Of the 26 Premier League games this season, Arter has started only 11 which is what has led to the player’s current unrest at the club.
The former Charlton player is under contract at the Vitality Stadium until 2021.
Football Insider verdict:
This move would make a lot of sense for the Hammers and for Arter. The Irons are missing energy from the midfield zone this season and it’s been an area which has been pulled apart due to the lack of grit and determination – with the addition of the 28-year-old to the fold this issue could be rectified. His experience in the Premier League will also be something other player’s around him can feed off. Injury problems have hampered the Hammers progression throughout the current campaign, exposing the lack of quality the side has in-depth which means Arter could add quality and strength in depth to the side.
