Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed West Ham should "splash the cash" on multiple Championship stars in the summer window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – backed second-tier stars to follow the path of Jarrod Bowen, who joined the Irons from Hull in 2020.

That emphasis comes with several domestic players expected to depart the Londoners in the off-season.

West Ham should raid Championship as £15m Greaves deal lined up, says Wyness

Wyness has claimed raiding the Championship will be a cost-effective strategy for Premier League sides.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Home-grown players will be in demand and that is what will raise the price, more than anything else.

“I don’t know what they’ve got in the academy, they’ll be looking there as well.

“I think there are lots of quality Championship players who deserve the chance to step up. We’ve seen Jarrod Bowen breakthrough, and I’m sure there are players who can follow that path.

“Clubs will be looking at the Championship more than normal.

“It’s about quick solutions, and clubs are not always able to grow players through the academy.

“Sometimes you have to splash the cash, and that’s where West Ham are.

“Historically, Championship players have not been too expensive. I believe that will be a good market for them.”
