Nuno Espirito Santo's West Ham position 'unstable' amid 'unhappy' claim

Nuno Espirito Santo is in an unstable position at West Ham United as sections of the fans have expressed their frustrations.

Despite a strong start to life in the Championship which has them in third place after nine games, there is an underlying feeling of unrest amongst the fans at the London Stadium.

Following a frustrating 1-1 draw against Queen's Park Rangers last time out, some fans have once again expressed their grivances with the style of play under the manager.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that there are currently no plans to sack Nuno, but ongoing unrest from fans could pile pressure on his position.

The boss was named Manager of the Month for September just days ago, but that has done little to stem the underlying feel of frustration, with many having made their minds up.

As a result, it could make life difficult for Nuno, who will always face pressure when his side fail to take all three games from a league fixture this season.

Could Nuno Espirito Santo come under pressure?

Brown warned Football Insider last month that West Ham could face major issues with Nuno, who was coming under pressure after a slow start to the season.

The Hammers went three games without a win to kick off their Championship campaign, leading to early frustrations before they turned that form around.

However, regardless of the largely positive results under Espirito Santo this season, the underlying concerns from sections of the fanbase could see the boss questioned.

"It's definitely a strange situation at West Ham, it might be one to keep an eye on," Brown told Football Insider.

"Nuno Espirito Santo is in a difficult place where it feels like some of the fans have already decided he isn't the right man for the job, regardless of what happens on the pitch.

"When they're winning games, it's fine, everybody's happy, but as soon as they lose or a result doesn't go there way, they're not happy and criticisms start to grow again.

"That makes his position unstable, because they're going to have difficult games, not every result will go their way, and that's going to lead to more complaints from the fans.

"There's this underlying feeling that they're not completely happy with him, and sometimes that is impossible for a manager to change, no matter what happens on the pitch.

"I don't think West Ham are going to be forced into a decision any time soon, of course, because he's doing a good job and they're still high up the league table.

"But there is a bit of a strange feeling around the club and especially with regard to the manager's position."

What do West Ham have planned for Nuno?

Despite the feeling of uncertainty surrounding Nuno's future at the London Stadium, there are no plans for the Hammers to make a managerial change any time soon.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 10 September that Nuno is not under pressure from the West Ham board despite some growing unrest.

Instead, there are plans in place for him to lead them back to the Premier League, with their goals for the rest of the season having been made abundantly clear.

Following their relegation last time out, there were calls for the manager to move on, but all parties opted for him to stay as the man to lead them back into the top flight.

West Ham's board are now planning for him to do just that, and as long as their results remain positve, he will be allowed to remain in his position regardless of fans' feelings.
