Stefan Borson: West Ham break Championship 'record' after 'massive' announcement
West Ham United's season ticket sales could be incredibly important ahead of the 2026-27 Championship campaign.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that while there may still be lots of empty seats, the sales so far will produce "significant revenue".
The Hammers announced on Friday, 17 July that 50,000 season ticket sales, already bypassing the club's sales from the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
Supporters have found few things to be positive about since their relegation from the top flight, but that hasn't stopped them from believing in a promotion season next term.
Although the Irons have, of course, reduced the price of their season tickets, it is still a huge update, and will undoubtedly be a big boost for the players.
It is already understood to be a Championship record for the most season tickets sold for a single campaign, and there are still weeks remaining until the first game.
West Ham break new record with season ticket sales
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson, while he did admit that there could still be empty seats, was very positive about the emerging news.
"It's massive really. It must be the record for any Championship side. They have reduced the tickets," he said.
"But they're going to generate a very significant amount of money from 50,000 season ticket holders. I think they'll still find that there are gaping holes across the stadium.
"So it might not look that great. Just because somebody's bought a season ticket... They've bought themselves an option for being able to go to the games.
"There are more games. I suspect there'll be they'll be on TV a fair bit. I suspect there'll be a lot of empty seats, but they will have sold them.
"So, you know, they're going to get very significant revenue."
All good news comes at once for West Ham
The news of West Ham's season ticket sales came just minutes after Jarrod Bowen, the club captain, confirmed his future at the London Stadium.
He put to bed any speculation about the England international potentially leaving this summer, despite strong interest from several Premier League clubs.
While the new deal that the star winger has signed doesn't add any years to his current expiration date, it does relieve any worries ahead of next season.
Mateus Fernandes has already left on a big-money deal to Tottenham Hotspur, and given the Hammers' strong finances, Nuno Espirito Santo will be under little pressure to sell anyone else.
