Tomas Soucek’s World Cup showing dents value amid West Ham uncertainty
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek's value will not have increased based off his opening World Cup performance.
Czechia suffered a 2-1 defeat in their opening World Cup match against South Korea, despite taking the lead thanks to Wolves defender Ladislav Krejci.
Following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League, and current financial situation, Soucek may leave the London Stadium this summer.
Slavia Prague's manager Jindrich Trpisovsky has publicly stated that he would like to sign Soucek if there is an opportunity to do so.
The 31-year-old began his senior career at Slavia Prague, leaving the club in 2020 to join West Ham.
Soucek has become a fan favourite at the Hammers, but his current deal at the club expires next year.
Tomas Soucek struggles in World Cup opener
To avoid letting Soucek leave on a free, West Ham are sure to be considering selling the midfielder if a suitable offer is received.
Soucek played the full 90 minutes against South Korea, but his performance will not have impressed any interested parties.
Successfully completing just 76 per cent of his passes, Soucek failed to win any ground duels, only two aerial duels, and was dribbled past once.
Making no key passes, Soucek failed to control the match in the middle of the park for his nation, who only had 31 per cent possession overall.
Meanwhile, Soucek's West Ham teammate Mateus Fernandes is expected to depart this summer, with former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown telling Football Insider that the Hammers may accept a cut-price offer.
Man United could accelerate Mateus Fernandes move
Fernandes is wanted by numerous club's, including Man United and Real Madrid, with West Ham currently wanting around £80million for the 21-year-old.
The Portugal international has not been selected in his nation's World Cup squad, making a deal potentially quicker to complete this summer.
With Manchester City actively pursuing Elliot Anderson, Man United could now focus their attentions on signing Fernandes to strengthen their midfield.
West Ham know that Fernandes will not want to play in the Championship next season, and they will not stand in his way of leaving the club.
