Sources: West Ham make approach for Leicester City's Abdul Fatawu
West Ham United have made an approach for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu, sources have told Football Insider.
The Hammers have identified the 22-year-old as a clear attacking target this summer, although the youngster is set to receive interest from across Europe.
Leicester are committed to selling the Ghana international this summer, and view him as their most "sellable asset" after their relegation to League One.
Sources have indicated that West Ham are still being viewed as an attractive proposition by players despite dropping out of the Premier League.
Fatawu was one of Leicester's strongest performers in the Championship last term, as he ended the campaign with nine league goals and seven assists for a struggling side.
He has already been earmarked to be sold by the East Midlands outfit this summer, and West Ham are trying to ensure it is they who secure his signature.
West Ham to face Premier League battle for Abdul Fatawu
Football Insider revealed back in April that Fatawu remains on the radar of both Sunderland and Everton this summer.
The Premier League duo are both long-term admirers of the former Sporting CP man, while Sunderland came close to signing him last summer following their promotion.
Leicester's financial struggles have left them keen to offload the wideman this summer, while the player is also adamant that he needs to be playing above League One level.
It has been widely reported that Fatawu will be available for just £20million as a result, rather than the previous £30m asking price.
West Ham are potentially set to lose several of their key players to Premier League clubs this summer, and are likely to have money to spend in the market.
West Ham on the verge of landing new recruitment chief
Football Insider revealed last week that Nils Koppen has now been granted a UK work permit ahead of his move to West Ham.
The former Rangers recruitment chief is set to move to the London Stadium and take on the role of the Hammers' director of recruitment.
The 39-year-old German has already agreed terms with the club hierarchy, and now has everything in place to make the switch and begin his work.
His official arrival at the club is now on the verge of being confirmed, with the correct paperwork now in place for a move to the UK.
