West Ham fans have taken to social media to slam Taty Castellanos after he missed a glorious chance to score late on against Fulham.

The Hammers' Carabao Cup journey came to an end on Tuesday night as Fulham ran out 3-2 winners at the London Stadium.

Nuno Espirito Santo gave some of his fringe players a chance to impress against Premier League opposition in the midst of a hectic Championship schedule.

The two sides were level at the break after Morato and Pablo cancelled out strikes from Rodrigo Muniz and Cesar Palacios, with Oscar Bobb then putting Fulham ahead late on.

Castellanos was then handed a fantastic opportunity in front of a near-open goal to make it 3-3, but his weak shot was easily saved by Benjamin Lecomte.

The miss angered fans as it was their final chance of the game to stop Fulham progressing to the fourth round of the cup.

Taty Castellanos comes under fire online after missed chance - 'Hang his head in shame'

Castellanos was one of several new signings made by West Ham in January to save them from relegation to the second tier.

He was unable to do so, despite scoring six goals in 18 league appearances in a strong spell, and has continued his decent form with four goals and two assists in six games so far this season.

Nuno chose Pablo and youth product Josh Ajala to lead the line on Tuesday night, with the Argentine forward coming on in the second half.

His chance to score came about as he drifted to the back post unmarked in the 89th minute, but he met Jarrod Bowen's low cross with a sluggish shot that was saved by Lecomte.

Many fans took to X to fume at Castellanos after the game, with one saying: "Taty...for a guy that walks around like he is Ronaldo, that miss is shocking. Not having him at all."

While another added: "Taty should hang his head in shame after that miserable side footed miss."

And one supporter said: "That Taty miss is genuinely pathetic, no excuse for it."

West Ham turn attention to Millwall clash as Opta make title prediction

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Nuno will not come under pressure at West Ham this season as their owners back him to win promotion back to the top flight.

Things are certainly going well on that front right now, as they sit top of the second tier with 14 points from seven games ahead of their huge clash against rivals Millwall this weekend.

Hammers fans may be annoyed about how they went out of the cup, but league glory could be on the horizon as Opta's supercomputer predicts them to win the Championship title.

Their latest calculations give the Irons a 29.8 per cent chance of finishing first, while they are 47.1 per cent likely to win promotion.
