Manuel Lanzini has the required magic to rebuild his West Ham career.
That is the view of Darren Bent, who was full of praise for the Argentina international in exclusive conversation with Football Insider as he hailed a “very good footballer”.
Bent’s thoughts are echoed by Lionel Messi, who reportedly once described Lanzini as a perfect fit for Barcelona.
2020-21 is Lanzini’s sixth season in the Premier League, and some believe it could be his last.
He was persistently linked with a move away from the London Stadium in the summer after his performance levels dipped towards the tail end of 2019-20.
But a number of promising substitute appearances, including against Crystal Palace last Wednesday, have led Bent to be hopeful of a resurgence in form.
“David Moyes is getting something out of him,” Bent told Football Insider. “He does seem like he’s playing at his best or potentially somewhere near his best.
“Before he had the injury a couple of seasons back, he was on fire. I mean he looked like ‘oh yeah, what a player he is’.
“I remember he scored that absolute rocket against Spurs at the start of the season.
“He’s got wonderful feet, he’s got great technique, he’s certainly a top player. Hopefully, as I said, they can keep hold of him and get what they need out of him.”
Lanzini was absent in David Moyes’ West Ham side’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Monday, a hamstring tweak throwing a spanner in the works in terms of his rejuvenation.
However, the former River Plate man looks set to return to action very soon.
