What a player - Ibrox Exclusive: Kevin Phillips wowed by latest Rangers signing
Kevin Phillips has tipped Kemar Roofe to enjoy great success at Rangers having watched the player closely at Leeds United.
The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is adamant the 27-year-old will prove to be a “smart signing” for Steven Gerrard.
The Gers announced the signing of two strikers on Tuesday, Roofe and Cedric Itten both put pen to paper on four-year deals after arriving from Anderlecht and FC St. Gallen respectively.
Roofe had scored six goals in 13 appearances for Anderlecht last season and moves to Ibrox 12 months after his surprise exit from Elland Road.
Phillips believes the Walsall-born centre-forward will “thrive” in Scotland and relish the opportunity to play in a team where he will receive lots of the ball.
“I think that is a smart signing,” he told Football Insider. “He will do well up there.

“He was at the Baggies for a bit and while it did not work out he went to Leeds and did well. There was a bit of disillusion when he left because he enjoyed success late on.
“I’m sure he will do well in Scotland. He is the type of player that will fit in well. Playing for Rangers he will get a lot of the ball and a lot of opportunity.
“We have seen at Leeds that he has ability so I see him thriving up there, I think he’s going to do very well.”
When speaking before the loss to Bayer Leverkusen, Gerrard said: “I am extremely happy with the two players we got in on Tuesday.
“I think I made it well-known that we were quite vulnerable with the options we had prior to getting them through the door.”
