Whelan cites Dele Alli after 'incredible' Celtic development
Noel Whelan has compared Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli to Tottenham’s Dele Alli after his “incredible turnaround” at Parkhead.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker claimed both players have benefitted from the change in management at their clubs.
Bolingoli, 26, was sent out to Istanbul Basaksehir on loan last season after he breached Covid-19 regulations in August 2022.
As a result of the incident, question marks were raised over the left-back’s long-term future at the club.
However, Ange Postecoglou has decided to give the full-back a second chance at Parkhead.
Bolingoli started Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Livingston – his first appearance for the club for 13 months.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the player’s return, Whelan said: “It has been an incredible turnaround.
“When a manager leaves and a new one comes in, everyone has a fresh start.
“It is very much like what has happened with Dele Alli at Tottenham. He was frozen out of the first team by Jose Mourinho last season. Everyone was wondering what was going to happen to him because he was not playing and sometimes not even in the squad.
“New managers can give players a fresh lease of life. I think that is the case with Bolingoli.
“It is up to him now to show the right character, attitude and application in training to keep his spot in the side. He has obviously been doing that over the past few weeks.
“Let’s be honest, Celtic do not have a massive squad so they will need all of their players. Bolingoli, after 90 minutes at the weekend, looks like he’s back in the frame.”
