Noel Whelan has claimed Victor Orta is looking at three potential Leeds United signings in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United striker says he’s “hearing whispers” about targets in the winter window for the Championship promotion chasers.

Whelan suggests reinforcements at centre-forward, centre-back and possibly goalkeeper as well could be on the way.

He’s explained how Leeds’ January business is partly dependent upon whether Premier League clubs terminate the deals of their loan stars, most notably Eddie Nketiah and Jack Clarke.

“We still need to strengthen in January,” Whelan told Football Insider. “I hope Victor Orta is looking and I’m hearing whispers that he is.

“We need another striker, especially if Arsenal recall Nketiah, another goalkeeper if Kiko Casilla gets a long ban and possibly another centre-back.

“I think Orta is looking at three January signings, although whether we would sign three is another mattter.

“We have enough midfielders and wide men, and Marcelo Bielsa has lots of options in those positions.

“When you look at the heart of defence and up front, those will be Orta’s priorities.”

Leeds signed six players for their senior squad in the summer window, all of whom arrived on loan.

Only two of those have been regular starters – Ben White and Jack Harrison – with Helder Costa in and out of the side and Clarke, Nketiah and Ilan Meslier yet to start a league game this season.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are ready to offload a regular starter after a major reveal.
