Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is an “electric” player who can add a thrilling new dimension to the Liverpool team this season, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker was impressed by the attacking midfielder’s cameo in yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United.
Whelan predicts Oxlade-Chamberlain will have a major role to play for Jurgen Klopp’s side and insisted he is ahead of Adam Lallana in the pecking order.
Lallana joined Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita in coming off the bench at Old Trafford and scored a vital equaliser, his first goal for the club in two-and-a-half years.
“Lallana looked lively enough but he’s not the one who really impressed me,” Whelan told Football Insider. “Lallana doesn’t have the electricity that Oxlade-Chamberlain has on the ball.
“He can go past opponents with pace, carry the ball forward from midfield to attack, and burst into the box to score goals.
“He’s starting to look sharp after that horrible injury and I predict big things from him this season. He’s young and hungry, and has the quality to be a Premier League superstar.
“A fully fit Oxlade-Chamberlain is a massive boost to the squad.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made just two starts among his eight appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season.
Since signing for the Champions League holders from Arsenal for £35million in 2017, the 26-year-old has played 53 times, scoring five goals and supplying eight assists.
In other Liverpool news, it can be REVEALED that Michael Edwards is the driving force as £31million out-of-window deal agreed.
