Noel Whelan fears Leeds United may lose loan stars Ben White, Eddie Nketiah and Jack Clarke in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United forward believes Leeds are vulnerable to losing players with recall clauses in the winter window.
Leeds have six players on loan this season, although Helder Costa has signed on a deal that will become permanent next summer for £15million.
Of the other five, Whelan believes Premier League trio Arsenal, Tottenham and Brighton could trigger the recall clauses in the Nketiah, Clarke and White’s deals respectively.
“Losing the loan players in January is a big fear for Leeds,” Whelan told Football Insider. “The parent clubs have all the power.
“We could lose Jack Clarke as he’s not played at all and Tottenham are likely to take him back and send him out on loan to another Championship club, where he can play more regularly.
“Obviously, the Nketiah one has been talked about a lot as he’s made a big impact but is still waiting for his first Championship start.
“Ben White is different as he’s played every game. The worry is not so much that Brighton will want him back, but that big Premier League clubs will make them an offer they can’t refuse.”
White has started all 16 of Leeds’ 16 Championship matches this season, while Nketiah and Clarke have yet to begin any.
The club’s other two loanees are Manchester City’s Jack Harrison – who has also been in the XI for every league match – and Lorient goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who is still waiting for his debut
