Whelan hails 'incredible' move as Leeds reportedly plot signing Phillips MK II
Noel Whelan has been left raving over the prospect of Leeds United signing Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted the 26-year-old’s “incredible” work rate would make him good competition and cover for Kalvin Phillips.
As reported by the Daily Mail (9th June), Leeds are set to launch a move to sign the in-demand midfielder this summer.
It is said several Premier League sides are interested in Reed following Fulham’s relegation to the Championship.
Whelan admitted he has been a fan of the midfielder since his breakthrough at Southampton.
He suggested the Cottagers’ star would be ideal to fill in for current Leeds ace Phillips.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s a player I’ve always admired. Even in his early days, you could see him controlling games.
“He’s very comfortable on the ball, good passing range, tenacious in the tackle when he needs to be. I think it’s the bravery on the ball, you can see that he’s always forward-thinking.
“He has that kind of attitude where you trust that kind of player. He works incredibly hard across that midfield four, protecting the backline as well. I think that would be you know a top signing.
“I think he’s been admired for a while by quite a lot of the Leeds contingent. He’s always been a player that is a standout. He dictates and controls games, very much like Kalvin Phillips does.”
Reed played 31 times during the 2020/21 Premier League campaign as Fulham were relegated.
He still has three years left on his contract, while the Cottagers hold an option year’s extension clause.
