Noel Whelan heaped praise on Raphinha after the Leeds United summer signing produced a match-winning display against Everton.
The former Whites and Coventry striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, hailed the “wonderful” 23-year-old the Man of the Match at Goodison Park.
The Brazilian scored his first goal for Leeds on Saturday to help them beat Everton 1-0 and climb to 12th in the Premier League table.
A £17million signing from Rennes in October, Raphinha has only two Premier League starts but now looks set for a regular place in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting eleven.
He had featured only as a substitute prior to the international break amid a slow start to his Leeds career.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Raphinha’s performance at Goodison, Whelan said:
“It is quite a close one but the Man of the Match for me would have to be Raphinha.
“He got that wonderful goal and his overall performance was sensational.
“He showed really good pace down that right-hand side, he was productive and also brought others into play. There is a certain quality he possesses that makes him very easy on the eye.
“He really did turn up against Everton and capped it off with a wonderful strike. There was no back-lift and it was refreshing to see because too often Leeds try and walk it into the back of the net.
“This kid is only going to get better and better.”
