Whelan: Kean is just like Havertz and Benitez is spot-on over Everton bid from giants
Noel Whelan has applauded Rafael Benitez for reportedly blocking Moise Kean from returning to PSG on loan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Spanish manager “needs to look” at the 21-year-old after his return to Goodison Park.
As reported by the Liverpool Echo (July 8th), Everton have rejected PSG’s offer of another season-long loan for the 21-year-old.
It is said Benitez has told the Toffees not to entertain any temporary offers for Kean.
The report also claims there are no talks underway over a permanent move.
Whelan insisted Benitez, who was appointed manager late in June, needed to assess every single player at his disposal, including Kean.

He suggested the Italian striker needed to show a certain character on his return to Merseyside.
“It’s sensible for the fact that I think a new manager needs to look at every player,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I think they’re doing the right thing and having a look at him. Rafa Benitez needs to look at him.
“He did very well at PSG in a very strong outfit. You would expect them to be dominating most games with the players they’ve got.
“He didn’t look the player that he does when he was in France. That’s the difficult point of it.
“You sometimes find that there is a league different to most and that is the Premier League.
“Its character and it’s a different level of football in the Premier League, we know that. Top, top players have struggled at times.
“(Kai) Havertz found it difficult to fit straight in, a top, top player in Germany. It doesn’t just happen overnight, it’s about character a lot of the time.
“I think Rafa’s doing the right thing. Have a look at him.”
