Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho will be “tearing his hair out” over the constant mistakes Davinson Sanchez has made this season.
That is according to ex-Premier League forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclsuively to Football Insider after Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Sunday.
Sanchez clattered into centre-back partner Joe Rodon with five minutes to go at St. James’ Park, leaving Newcastle’s Joe Willock free to score a late equaliser.
The Colombian defender has struggled throughout much of 2020-21 and has started just 16 of Spurs’ 30 league matches.
Whelan bemoaned the frequency of Sanchez’ defensive mistakes and claims that his manager will be infuriated with the 24-year-old.
He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “Sanchez hasn’t looked great for a while now.
“We’re talking about fine margins and you look back on goals they concede when he’s in the side and it’s always little mistakes that cost them.
“The next goal at 2-1 up against Newcastle would have killed them off but these little mistakes just kept giving them hope.
“Jose Mourinho will have been very disappointed to have kept giving Newcastle that hope. That’s not what you need when you’re meant to be going for Europe, is it?
“He’ll be tearing his hair out when he watches the goals they conceded. Schoolboy mistakes, especially from Sanchez. Shocking stuff.”
Sanchez signed for Spurs from Ajax for a then club-record £42million in 2017.
He has seen his game time redued this campaign but has amassed 148 apperances for the club in total.
