Whelan raises new Phillips injury 'fear' as Leeds training footage emerges
Noel Whelan has admitted he still has serious fears over Kalvin Phillips’ shoulder injury at Leeds United.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old needed to be extremely cautious after suffering the issue on the final day of the season.
Leeds posted a video of star man Phillips in training to their official Instagram page on Thursday.
The midfielder was filmed doing exercises focused on his right arm and shoulder.
Phillips will be hoping to be included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for the Euros.
While the midfielder looked good in the gym, Whelan admitted he still had reservations about him on a matchday.

Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “It’s a recurrence of the shoulder injury that he had this season already. I fear the worst because I’ve had a dislocated shoulder myself.
“Running, you can manage it, that’s the simple part because you know it’s there. You can manage it. When you’re actually in game and you forget about it, and you have that contact, that’s when there could be a problem.
“I know how fragile that area is and how much you use it. When it comes to running, stopping, turning, shooting passing, you’re always using your shoulder for balance. When it comes to any kind of 50/50 contact, tackles, jarring, stopping suddenly, you use the muscles around that area.
“I know how tender it is and it’s going to be one where he might have to manage it. So wherever you can take a player that can manage an injury like that, that’s entirely up to Gareth Southgate. I hope to God that he’s fit enough.
“I would not want him losing his place, I would not want him not being in this tournament. He deserves it thoroughly but I do worry about that game environment where you do forget about an injury.
“You’ve got to go in 100 per cent committed to certain challenges, to passes and playing the game. That’s my biggest worry, whether it’s strong enough to withstand all that.”
📰 Kalvin picked up a shoulder injury in yesterday's season finale. Currently being treated conservatively, the club remains confident he will be available for Euro 2020, if selected.
