Noel Whelan has hailed Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster as a “perfect” January loan signing for Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United forward spoke glowingly of the centre-forward, 19, after United’s interest emerged at the weekend.

Football Insider broke news on Friday morning that Jurgen Klopp is willing to loan out Brewster in January in order for him to gain senior match experience.

Crystal Palace have already expressed their interest in Brewster, while he is on the radar of other leading clubs including Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds.

“I’d love him at Leeds,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He is young, hungry, exciting, well spoken about by Jurgen Klopp.

“If we could pull that deal out of the bag in January, wow, perfect. It would be a great deal for us. He would offer something a bit different to what we’ve already got.”

“We need strength in depth up front. Two senior strikers, Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah, is not enough for a Championship campaign.

“If we can get someone like Rhian Brewster, that would give us three proper centre-forwards who can be rotated as and when needed. You need three strikers in case of injuries and suspensions if you’re going for promotion.”

Brewster has made two senior Liverpool appearances, both of which were 90-minute run outs in this season’s League Cup.

He has yet to make his Premier League or Champions League bow, but Klopp has described the former Chelsea youngster as a first-team star of the future.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club’s Kiko Casilla hopes rise after significant developments behind the scenes.
