Leeds United winger Raphinha

Noel Whelan has tipped Raphinha to shake off his injury scare to start for Leeds United against Liverpool on Monday.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Brazilian winger would not allow anything minor to rule him out of such a big game.

As confirmed by Marcelo Bielsa on Thursday, the 24-year-old is a doubt against the Reds after picking up a knock in the win at Manchester City.

Raphinha has been a standout performer for Marcelo Bielsa’s men this season with six goals and six assists to his name.

He was subbed off right at the death against City after a tackle from Fernandinho.

In a story on his personal Instagram and relayed across social media, the winger posted a picture of his leg bandaged up after the incident.

However, Whelan has admitted he does not think Raphinha will miss Monday’s game.

“I am expecting him to shake it off,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“I mean, these are the games that big players love to play in. He has had a good week of recovery time and treatment. He has probably done light training, I would imagine, as well.

“I cannot, for the life of me, think of a game that he would rather play in. A Monday night game against Liverpool, the champions of the Premier League.

“It’s a game where he wants to go out there and prove himself again.”

Raphinha has started 23 of his 26 appearances for Leeds in the Premier League this term.

Bielsa will also have Jack Harrison back available after he was ineligible to face Manchester City.
