Whelan suggests tension rising among Celtic stars after Giakoumakis reveal
Noel Whelan has claimed Georgios Giakoumakis’ latest injury blow may see tensions rise among the Celtic squad.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aberdeen hitman suggested Ange Postecoglou and the rest of the squad would be “frustrated” to see the 26-year-old sidelined.
As quoted by journalist Alison Conroy (23rd September), Postecgolou confirmed Giakoumakis underwent a scan on a calf injury suffered while warming up in Thursday’s win over Raith Rovers.
He was named on the bench but was not among the substitutes after half time.
The Greece international is still yet to make his Hoops debut after joining from VVV Venlo over the summer.
Whelan admitted his absence may see frustration build among the squad.

“You’ve just lost Edouard, he was the player coming in to replace him,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He’s not even set foot in one minute of a game. Frustration, I think, for the manager and the players. Every little bit of help and goalscorer you have in the team is an added bonus.
“It just leaves a lot of pressure on the players out there already to go out there and do the job. There’s no backup there in case they get injured themselves or are going through a bit of a bad run.
“Hopefully it’s not going to be too long. Let’s hope it’s just a slight niggle, but it’s not ideal preparation.
“They still got over that and got the win through to the next round, more importantly. They can assess him and see where they go from there.
“You need these sort of players, especially when you’ve just lost a talisman in Edouard.”
