Whelan tells Newcastle to re-sign Van Aanholt as two-year contract mooted
Noel Whelan has told Newcastle United to sign Patrick Van Aanholt this summer.
The former Leeds United attacker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Newcastle have to be clever in the transfer market.
On 25th April, Football Insider revealed Steve Bruce will have between £8 and £10million to spend this summer.
He is currently at Euro 2020 with Holland and started in his side’s 3-2 victory over Ukraine.
The defender moved to the Magpies on an emergency loan in 2010 after regular left back Jose Enrique picked up a long-term injury.

Whelan wants to see the Magpies re-sign Van Aanholt as he would bring quality and experience to St James’ Park.
“You have a lot of players out of contract at the moment,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Look at Van Aanholt. I’m sure he could do a job at Newcastle. He’s someone who can add that quality and experience.
“Newcastle have to be clever in the transfer market and look at players who are out of contract.
“Maybe a two-year contract for some players, Van Aanholt would be one for me. They have to look at him.
“He played very well for Holland the other night, there are gems out there if you look for them.”
Van Aanholt made 22 Premier League appearances for Crystal Palace last season.
Across those outings, he failed to score but picked up one assist.
