Whelan: This is why Leeds will go to another level after Bamford's England call-up
Noel Whelan insists Patrick Bamford’s first England call up is a massive boost to everyone at Leeds United.
The former Whites hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on Bamford.
On 26 August it was announced Bamford has received his first England call up for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.
At the end of last season, there was speculation over whether the striker was in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 plans.
However, Bamford was not called up despite being the second-highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League.

“It’s a massive boost,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“We now have another international along with Kalvin Phillips. Another international who is heavily involved for us.
“It looks like we have a nice crop of international at Leeds United now.
“Not only is it good for Patrick but it shows everyone else that there is a chance to make it into the national side.
“Jack Harrison is the prime example, it’s attainable. If you perform you will get your rewards from Gareth Southgate.
“You would say Southgate is looking for a younger England side and Bamford isn’t as young as most of them.
“Again, it shows that if you work hard you will be rewarded. It’s fully deserved.”
Bamford scored 17 goals in the Premier League last season after only having one top flight goal to his name before the campaign.
He also played in every league game for Leeds as they finished in the top half.
