Whelan thrilled by 'absolutely brilliant' Dallas news as Leeds star handed 'sizeable pay rise'

Noel Whelan is over the moon to see Stuart Dallas sign a new long-term contract at Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites and Middlesbrough striker expects the 30-year-old was given a “sizeable pay rise” which he claimed would be fully deserved.

Leeds United confirmed on July 2nd that the Northern Ireland international had put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at Elland Road.

It comes after a season that saw Dallas named both the Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year.

Marcelo Bielsa has utilised Dallas at numerous positions over the past few seasons, including left-back, centre-midfield, right-back and right-midfield.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his reaction to the news, Whelan said: “Absolutely brilliant news.

“I cannot think of a player that deserves it more than him, to be quite honest with you.

“The last couple of seasons he has been my player of the season. Nobody cannot say that he does not deserve this three-year deal.

“He has been the ultimate professional. He has never let the team down.

“I expect that he got a sizeable pay rise which he fully deserves. His performances have been so consistent.”

Dallas did not miss a single minute of Premier League action last season.

He contributed eight goals and two assists in his 38 league appearances, including a match-winning brace against Manchester City in April.
