Tottenham Hotspur will be one of the favourites to win the Europa League next season if they qualify, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United defender suggested that the experience that manager Jose Mourinho has in high pressure knockout ties could prove to be a vital factor in helping Spurs to continental glory next term.

The Portugese revealed recently that he had been telling his players that they only had to win their remaining Premier League fixtures to lift Europe’s second trophy next season.

Spurs took a big step towards ensuring their qualification with a stunning 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday.

That result saw them climb to sixth in the table, with a clash against Crystal Palace on the final day still to come.

And should they qualify for the Europa League, Football Insider and Sky Sports pundit Mills is backing them to make quite the impact on the competition.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Mourinho knows how to win, and he knows how to win knockout football as well. He knows how to get through those rounds and how to do that.

“When you look at the side that Tottenham have, and I look at their front three, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn, Dele Alli in behind that, Giovani Lo Celso – it’s a very strong side. It’s a very, very strong lineup.

“This is a squad that was in the Champions League final last season. Let’s remember that. Okay, they’ve had a bit of a downturn after that, but they’re still the same players.

“If Mourinho is in the Europa League then they would have to be one of the favourites.”

Mourinho won the Europa League with Manchester United back in 2017.

He also lifted the UEFA Cup with FC Porto back in 2003, and has two Champions League titles to his name – one with Porto the following year, and one with Inter Milan a decade ago.

In other Tottenham news, the club have been backed to beat Celtic to the signing of an English centre-forward.
