'Who would have thought? - Exclusive: Pundit reacts to 'Massive' Tottenham update

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie insisted it is "massively important" Tottenham renew terms with Son Heung-min this season.

The former West Ham and Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, hailed the relationship the 28-year-old has developed with Harry Kane this season.

The deal would take the South Korea international into the top bracket of earners at Spurs alongside Kane and Tanguy Ndombele following a breakthrough in discussions.

Son's 14 appearances this season have yielded 11 goals and five assists, the remarkable stats in part-owed to his new interchangeable role with Kane.

When asked by Football Insider if a new deal for the winger should be the top priority at the club this year, McAvennie said: "It is massively important that they get him tied down.

"Son and Kane have a great understanding at the moment. Who would have thought that Harry Kane would be coming this deep?

"Jose Mourinho has taken so much pressure off him. He is loving it and he is no longer making these lung-busting sprints in behind, Son is doing that for him. They have the best of both worlds.

"They are doing so well. You have got Gareth Bale to come into that as well. What a wonderful front three that is."
