Everton should make a move for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma in the summer transfer window amid reports that he could leave the current Premier League leaders.
The Toffees will be looking to strengthen their defensive options next season and the 22-year-old could be a great option for them.
The Daily Express claim that Zouma is set to hold talks with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte in the summer and that he faces an unsettled future at Stamford Bridge.
It is understood that Italian club Roma are eyeing a potential move for the centre-back in the summer.
The report details that Conte could be open to loaning him out for the whole of next season, but Zouma may be willing to force a permanent deal if he can’t secure a regular first-team spot at Chelsea.
Everton should enter the race for the France international as he would certainly help improve the quality of the squad.
The defender established himself as a regular starter during the 2015/16 campaign, but a horrible cruciate knee ligament injury saw him sidelined for seven months.
He has been unable to force his way back into the starting XI at Chelsea, but that is no disgrace as club icon John Terry has also been restricted to the bench under Conte.
They currently have Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary as the main centre-back options, meaning it’s very difficult for Zouma to get a look in.
However, there is no doubting that the Frenchman has great quality and has the potential to become a very consistent defender.
Everton need to improve their current centre-back options if they want to break into the top six of the Premier League next season.
They have ageing defenders Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams in their squad, alongside Ramiro Funes Mori and emerging youngster Mason Holgate.
Ronald Koeman must be considering signing a marquee defender to bolster his options and Zouma could just fit the bill, with his experience of English football a vital asset.
In other Everton transfer news, the club are confident of winning the race to sign a £28million-rated defender.
