Arsene Wenger should leave youngster Alex Iwobi out of the starting XI for Arsenal’s next match against Liverpool in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old is a favourite under manager Wenger after making the breakthrough into the first-team from the club’s academy.
He has managed to cement his position on the left wing for the Gunners and has shown glimpses of his qualities this season.
However, he needs to be dropped to the bench until he recaptures his best form as he has been too inconsistent lately.
Arsenal have a talented squad at their disposal and the likes of Lucas Perez and Danny Welbeck deserve a chance to start ahead of Iwobi.
The Nigeria international started the club’s 2-0 win over non-league Sutton on Monday night and did manage an assist as he flicked the ball into the path of Theo Walcott, who scored his 100th goal for the north London club.
Iwobi was relatively quiet despite his involvement in the goal and has been guilty of being a passenger recently.
The winger started in the 5-1 demolition at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League and was guilty of failing to making any sort of impact.
He remains an exciting prospect at the Emirates Stadium and it is fantastic to see players coming out of the academy, but Wenger needs to give him a rest.
Iwobi appears to have lost that spark in his play and would benefit from a brief spell on the sidelines during his dip in form.
The Gunners need to keep their squad competitive as they fight for a top four spot and can’t just be reliant on talisman Alexis Sanchez for goals.
In other Arsenal news, Ian Wright has delivered his verdict on the future of the club’s 28-year-old attacker.
