Wilfried Gnonto looks done at Leeds United as Leo Scienza edges closer to Premier League move

Wilfried Gnonto must feel that a departure from Elland Road is becoming increasingly inevitable as new links emerge at Leeds United.

The 22-year-old has been gifted very few minutes during the 2025-26 campaign, having fallen down Daniel Farke’s pecking order during his team’s Championship-winning season.

Many expected the Italian youth international to finally make a rare start against West Ham in the FA Cup, but once again, he was forced to sit on the bench until the final 20 minutes.

Leeds’ transfer plans will already be taking shape, especially after all-but-sealing Premier League survival with victory against Man United, and it could see the end of Gnonto’s time at Elland Road.

Wilfried Gnonto continues to slip down Leeds United’s pecking order

With just four Premier League starts, it seems like only a matter of time before Leeds part ways with Gnonto, whose contract expires in two years. Interest in him is unlikely to be sparse.

But it would appear that the Whites are already making plans to replace him on the left flank, with Farke’s side joining the race to sign Southampton star Leo Scienza, as per RTI ESport (13 April).

Tottenham, Aston Villa, Fulham and Everton are all keeping tabs on the electric forward, who has seven goals and eight assists in 36 games this season.

The Toffees have had previous interest in Gnonto, though, with the player even handing in a transfer request back in August 2023, so it would not be a surprise to see them come back in for him.

Southampton are already resigned to losing Leo Scienza

Scienza has had an incredible campaign in England, attracting plenty of attention from England’s top tier, especially following his performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

Given his performances, Football Insider understands that Southampton are already resigned to losing Scienza, and it will likely come down to who pushes the hardest for his signature.

With Premier League survival likely confirmed now, those behind the scenes at Elland Road can put plans in place ahead of the summer transfer window, and Scienza should be at the top of the list.

Although the 27-year-old missed quite a few chances to improve his numbers this season, Farke should be able to work wonders with him and turn him into a monster on the left flank.
