Wilson Isidor: Leeds plot move to sign Sunderland star as he eyes summer transfer

Wilson Isidor is on Leeds United‘s radar ahead of the summer window after struggling for consistent game time at Sunderland this season.

Isidor was vital to Sunderland’s promotion from the Championship but has been unable to nail down a place in their Premier League starting eleven.

The Haiti international was last handed a league start in early December and could look for a move away this summer as a result of his struggles.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Leeds could look to sign Isidor before next season to bolster Daniel Farke’s options in attack.

Leeds’ transfer plans are set to include a new striker signing to provide better competition to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor.

Leeds interested in Wilson Isidor as Sunderland exit looms

Isidor started the season in strong form, but has scored just once in his last 24 appearances for Sunderland and is stuck behind Brian Brobbey in Regis Le Bris’ striker pecking order.

The Black Cats are set to explore a new striker signing this summer, potentially leaving Leeds with a chance of signing Isidor in the coming months.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I think there’ll be a lot of clubs looking at Isidor, potentially for a move away in the summer. He’s dropped down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light this season.

“There was a bit of interest in Isidor from other clubs in the January window, but Sunderland didn’t want to let him go as they wanted to keep hold of their core squad and make sure they secured Premier League safety.

“It might now be in his best interests for Isidor to seek a move away in the summer if he wants to be playing regularly. Leeds may be one of the clubs that look at (signing) him.”

Leeds accelerating plans to sign Lois Openda ahead of Coventry City

Several new strikers could be on the agenda for the Whites this summer, especially with Joel Piroe set to leave and Lukas Nmecha struggling to find the net in recent weeks.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Leeds are in “pole position” to sign Openda as they prepare to offer him big wages this summer.

The Juventus striker has scored regularly for RB Leipzig in years gone by, but has only managed two goals in 34 games while on loan with the Serie A giants this season.

Newly promoted Coventry are also interested in an ambitious move for Openda, but Leeds are well-placed to agree an expensive loan-to-buy deal before next season.
