With Rangers deal reportedly close, comments reveal exactly what Gerrard thinks about Celtic
If reports are true and Rangers secure a stunning deal for Steven Gerrard, they will have a huge Celtic fan as their new manager.
Former Celtic player Andy Lynch revealed exactly what Gerrard thought of Celtic when he led a consortium that was trying to buy Liverpool.
Talking in 2016 in the Daily Record, Lynch revealed in his book Hoops, Stars and Stripes, that Gerrard has a signed Celtic shirt framed on his wall.
“When you hear stories about really big names coming to play in Scotland you usually think ‘Ah, they’d never be able to get him’ but in this case it’s not such an outlandish idea.
“I don’t think it’s outrageous at all, or just another rumour. I think it could be very probable to see Steven Gerrard at Celtic.

“The decisive factor could be that he is a real Celtic man.
“It was him who brought up the subject of Celtic and you could see he was pretty excited talking about it. He said ‘that’s my team, that’s who I support.’
“I was surprised how passionate he was so it’s not so outrageous to think he’d choose to come here. Especially now Brendan is there and perhaps with a coaching role added as a sweetener, I don’t think it’s an impossible dream for Celtic fans.”
Does any of this really matter?
Of course not, but Rangers fans who are already questioning the wisdom of giving such a massive job to someone who’s only got experience of managing the Under-18s at Liverpool might seize on this as another reason why he shouldn’t get the job.
The rivalry is so intense between the two sides that Celtic supporters will love this, but Rangers could have the opportunity to land a brilliant manager.
Every big name has been unknown at some point and Gerrard’s football blood is strong.
He’s seen as a future Liverpool manager and he’ll be determined to prove himself at Rangers.
It’s a huge gamble for him too, let’s not forget. The Rangers job is massive, high-profile and a huge risk to take as your first job in management.
Let’s not forget what happened to Gary Neville.
What Gerrard thinks about Celtic is probably the least of the Rangers fans worries, but that doesn’t mean Gerrard can’t be a huge success at Ibrox.
We can guarantee these words will be coming back to haunt him though as the Ibrox deal is said to be close.
