Wolves could yet seal their 'biggest deal of summer' amid £30m Athletic reveal - pundit

Wolves could seal their ‘biggest deal of the summer’ with the contract renewal of Adama Traore.

That is the view of former Sunderland and England striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old’s future at Molineux.

As revealed by The Athletic‘s David Ornstein on August 31st, Tottenham had a £30million bid for Traore rejected on Monday.

According to Birmingham Live (2nd September), Wolves are hoping to open talks over a new deal with the winger now the transfer window has shut.

However, it is said that the Spain international has declined the opportunity to extend his contract on multiple occasions over the past 12 months.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the situation, Phillips said:

“It would be the biggest deal they could do this year, bigger than any transfer they’ve done.

“You saw against Man United that he is getting back to his best. He has caused chaos so far this season.

“Unless the player has made it clear he does not want to sign a new deal, I would be looking to tie him down. You want to keep him at the football club for a long time.

“But, I get the impression that he might go. His agent will probably be in the background saying, ‘Hang on. A deal will happen next year.’ It would not surprise me if he turned down the offer of a new deal.

“If they can get him on a long-term contract that would be the best bit of business they would have done this summer.”
