Wolves showed the rest of the Championship exactly why they are at the pinnacle of the Championship with a 3-1 victory against Burton Albion at Molineux on Saturday.
It was a result that had supporters calling for the international call-up of Conor Coady, following his display at the back and the defence-splitting ball which created the opening goal for Helder Costa.
With Cardiff City not due to play in the league until Sunday, away at Derby County, it gave Nuno Espirito Santo’s side a chance to reinstate the gap that had been diminished after results over the past few weeks.
A 4-1 defeat away at Villa Park had left the Midlanders in doubt of automatic promotion despite having dominated the Championship for large parts of the campaign.
But a 3-0 victory against Reading last time out allied those concerns as they pushed for the title.
Realistically Burton were never likely to offer much of a challenge to the division’s big spenders, considering their lowly position in the league, in the midst of a relegation battle.

And an early goal in the game, courtesy of Costa, ensured Wolves had the Brewers under control and Benik Afobe added a second just before the break.
Lloyd Dyer got one back for the visitors moments later to give them a glimmer of hope until the Bournemouth loanee got his second of the game after the interval to reinstall their two-goal advantage.
Here is what supporters had to say about the display of Coady on Twitter after the win:
