Wolves have offered Che Adams a contract after opening talks with the Southampton forward last month, sources have told Football Insider

But sources say Southampton’s promotion back to the Premier League means he could now stay at St Mary’s after he was previously expected to leave the club.

Negotiations are underway between Adams and Southampton over an extension after he’s spent the past five years in Hampshire.

The 27-year-old has made it clear he wants to play in the Premier League next season and Russell Martin’s side can now offer him that following their play-off final victory over Leeds United.

Che Adams could stay at Southampton despite Wolves offer

Wolves have held a long-term interest in Adams after Football Insider revealed he was on their radar in the January transfer window.

Gary O’Neil’s side were believed to be leading multiple clubs in the race to sign Adams on a free transfer before the latest twist emerged.

Adams enjoyed an impressive season with Southampton after scoring 17 goals and laying on six assists in 46 appearances.

He registered 14 of those strikes in this calendar year alone after forcing his way back into the starting lineup and helping the Hampshire club achieve promotion.

The forward has previously proven he can be a reasonable option in the Premier League after scoring 25 goals in 124 top-flight appearances.

Adams will now decide whether he wants to extend his spell at St Mary’s as talks continue on the south coast after already receiving a contract offer from Wolves.
