Wolves are likely to be in a Premier League relegation battle despite having more money to spend on new signings before the transfer deadline.

Wolves sold Matheus Cunha to Manchester United for £62.5million earlier this summer, providing a boost to the club’s financial situation.

Meanwhile, Rayan Ait-Nouri joined Manchester City in a £36million deal after being a standout player at Molineux in recent years.

Wolves signed Jorgen Strand Larsen on a permanent deal for £23million in July, having spent last season on loan from Celta Vigo.

Elsewhere, Fer Lopez, Jhon Arias, Jackson Tchatchoua and David Moller Wolfe have also joined Vitor Pereira’s side this summer, taking their overall spending to around £80million.

Wolves and Burnley tipped for relegation battle

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen CEO.

Pereira is hoping to improve on last season’s 16th-place finish at Molineux.

However, Wolves were beaten 4-0 by Man City on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign on 16 August.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said: “I've got Burnley down there.

“I do think it's still going to be a struggle for them. I think they're going to fight and they're not going to disgrace themselves this season, but I do think it's going to be a continual battle for them every week.

“Another one, which a lot of people may not agree with, is Wolves. I think Wolves are going to be there. I just don't see the spark and the excitement.

“Obviously, it's not very fair to compare them against the opposition they had last weekend in Man City.

“It's not going be that bad every weekend, but Wolves have not really strengthened the squad enough yet. It may well come in.

“I mean, they've got some money from what I understand, and they can go and do a bit of strengthening, but I think Pereira wants that to happen sooner rather than later.”

Newcastle plot move to sign Wolves star in £60m deal

In terms of a potential exit at Molineux, Newcastle have been targeting Strand Larsen as they look to sign a new striker this summer.

However, Wolves are believed to be asking for more than £60million to let the 25-year-old leave before the transfer deadline on 1 September.

The Norway international registered 14 goals and five assists in 38 appearances last season.
