Cesar Peixoto will be able to pinpoint the moment his future at Wolves went up in smoke against Bolton Wanderers.

The Old Gold fought back at Molineux Stadium on Tuesday, 13 October, as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde cancelled out Atsuki Ito's opener.

However, Sam Dalby came off the bench to poke home Bolton's second of the evening, with Josh Sheehan sealing all three points for the visitors.

It was a stunning result for the side that won promotion from League One last season, but equally a very dangerous one for Wolves' manager.

Football Insider has revealed that Peixoto is fighting to keep his job in the Black Country, and that the club's chiefs could soon be seeking a replacement.

The 46-year-old is just 12 games into his tenure in England, but the Wolves boss simply has no excuses for sitting 10th in the Championship table.

Adam Armstrong's miss comes back to haunt Wolves

With Raul Jimenez sidelined, Peixoto has been forced to play with Adam Armstrong through the middle. That domino effect could ultimately see him sacked.

With the score tied 1-1 at the weekend, the 29-year-old striker had the biggest chance of the entire game to give Wolves the lead in the 69th minute.

An incredible cross from Rafiki Said found Armstrong in acres of space, with only Gavin Bazunu to beat and the entire net to aim at.

A moment dubbed "utterly incredible" by Rangers Review journalist Derek Clark on commentary, it was one that shaped the entire game moving forward.

No more than three minutes later and Bolton had the ball in the back of the net. Had Armstrong scored, and Wolves went on to win, Peixoto's side would be sitting in, at least, sixth place.

Can Wolves still win promotion to the Premier League?

We're only nine games into the 2026-27 Championship campaign. It's impossible to tell who will be where when the curtain comes down.

Opta have tried to predict the final standings, though, and it doesn't look good for those at Molineux right now.

Wolves are still predicted to finish fifth with 73 points in the Championship table, with a 53.78 per cent chance of winning promotion via the play-offs.

Their chances of winning the title, though? Well, thanks to Peixoto's tactics, that's already fallen to 6.04 per cent, with West Ham United and Middlesbrough leading the charge.
