Adam Armstrong is now expected to lead the line for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their upcoming Black Country derby clash against West Bromwich Albion.

This comes after Raul Jimenez was ruled out of the clash after he picked up a knee injury in the 1-0 defeat to Everton on Wednesday that will rule him out of action for a few weeks.

Armstrong has been hit and missed so far in the 2026-27 campaign.

The 29-year-old had a great start to the season and scored in the 3-1 victory over Preston North End in August.

However, since then, the goals have dried up, and he missed a sitter in the dying minutes of the 2-2 draw against Birmingham City.

Nevertheless, Armstrong holds an excellent record against the Baggies, which should give Wolves fans confidence going into Sunday’s derby.

In the nine times Armstrong has face West Brom, he has netted five goals and picked up one assist.

All of these goals have come recently, with all five being scored in his last four meetings against the Baggies.

In fact, in his last appearance, he netted twice in a 3-2 victory at St Mary’s Stadium, which proved to be one of his final appearances for Southampton.

Therefore, given his recent record, Wolves fans should not worry ahead of the derby.

While Jimenez’s injury is no doubt a huge blow, Armstrong is more than capable of netting against the Baggies to ensure that the club comes away with all three points.

What are Armstrong’s stats this season?

Armstrong has not been overly impressive this season to date.

According to Fotmob on 17 September, he has averaged 0.27 goals, a 0.36 xG, 1.60 shots, 0.27 shots on target, 0.80 chances created and a 0.12 xA per 90 minutes in the Championship.

These stats will need to improve if Armstrong wants to secure his status as a guaranteed starter in this Wolves side this season.

However, it remains to be seen if he can start to improve these stats on Sunday in the Black Country derby as he looks to net his second goal of the campaign.
